Data Engineer with Russian
For a rapidly growing bank in the Central Asia region in the digital banking sector, we are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join an established data team and contribute to a major regulatory data initiative.
What you will do
- Implement data solutions based on specifications and analytical outputs prepared by Data Analysts
- Develop and maintain data transformations and pipelines
- Work hands-on with Python, dbt and SQL
- Design and work with data models and transformation patterns
- Prepare structured data for mandatory regulatory reporting
- Implement and maintain Data Quality controls, reconciliation and data lineage
- Design testing scenarios, validation rules and quality checks
- Work with larger data volumes and assess the impact and performance of data jobs and transformations
- Follow mature engineering practices including code review, branching, version control and testing
- Collaborate closely with Data Analysts, Data Architects, the platform team and other specialists within an international data team of approximately 30 people
Data ingestion from source systems is handled by a dedicated platform team. Your responsibility will primarily begin once the data is available within the target data environment.
What we are looking for
- At least 5–6 years of relevant professional experience, ideally 7+ years
- Strong hands-on experience with Python
- Practical experience with dbt
- Good knowledge of SQL
- Strong understanding of data modelling and transformation patterns
- Experience designing, developing and maintaining data pipelines
- Experience working in a mature engineering environment where code review, version control, testing and Data Quality checks are standard practice
- Ability to approach data engineering from a broader software engineering perspective
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned solutions
- Russian at C1 level or higher – both working communication and documentation are in Russian
- Willingness to maintain sufficient working-hours overlap with a team operating in the UTC+5 time zone
Nice to have
- Experience in banking, fintech or another regulated industry
- Exposure to regulatory or mandatory reporting
- Experience with Apache Airflow or a comparable orchestration tool
- Experience with Greenplum or another enterprise Data Warehouse technology
- Experience working with larger-scale data environments
- A Software Engineering background followed by a move or specialization into Data Engineering
Previous banking experience is not mandatory. We are primarily looking for someone with a strong engineering mindset who understands data modelling, transformations, pipelines and Data Quality rather than someone tied to one specific technology or platform.
Collaboration & location:
- 100% remote – candidates can be based anywhere in Europe
- with a required time overlap zone (UTC+5, i.e., 3 hours ahead of CET/CEST); key meetings usually take place in the afternoon.
